Tips For Working Remotely
Here at JT’s Cloud, we have had remote staff for several years now and we have larned a few tips and tricks we can share with both employees and employers.
Working remotely can be a difficult adjustment, especially if you aren’t accustomed to this working arrangement. However, there are a few things you can do to make this transition smoother and easier while maintaining your efficiency and productivity (yes, really!). Here are 5 points to keep in mind when you start working remotely.
1. Get The Right Tools
While this may not be a permanent solution, to work from home, it is still very important for you to set up an office-like space in your home.
This is especially important if you will be working remotely for an extended period.
Just because you are working from home does not mean you should be slouched on the couch - you still need to look after your posture, so a good chair and a proper desk will not only assist with posture but also help make it feel as though you are in a proper office environment.
2. Make Sure You Still Get Outside
Seeing as your daily commute is now just a few steps from your bedroom to your new office, it is still really important to make sure you get a bit of fresh air and sunshine away from your desk.
Something as small as eating your lunch out in your backyard or balcony will have a huge effect on your body. Ideally, you will be able to get out for a walk around the block to get yourself a little bit of daily exercise in as well.
3. Stay In Touch With One Another
You won’t realise how much you chat with your colleagues and how much assistance you will provide each other without even knowing it until they are not there.
Be sure to pick up the phone and help each other stay on track with work.
Just because you’re working remotely, doesn’t mean you need to miss out on office camaraderie!
4. Stick To A Routine
If you have a set routine that you do each morning when you arrive at the office then keep implementing it during your time at home.
This will help keep the ‘office mindset’ switched on for you. For example, if you arrive in the office and check your emails straight away to deal with anything urgent and then make your way to the tea room for a coffee, then continue this from your home office as well.
5. Prioritize a Strong Work-Life Balance
We have touched base on this in a previous point, but a strong and healthy work-life balance is the key to your wellbeing. .
Now that your office is just going to be at home, it will be a lot easier to just keep working seeing as you are sitting at home anyway, or if you are an early riser it might be too tempting to just sit straight behind the desk and get through some work.
Take advantage of the extra 30 or 60 minutes you have now without the daily commute and go for a walk outdoors. Play with your kids for 30 minutes in the afternoon. Look for a positive way to spend this time while working remotely.
These are just a few of the tips and tricks that our employees have used to aid their success while working remotely. You just need to make sure you are comfortable with your new situation and do whatever it takes to ensure you succeed!
We don’t know how long this environment will last; the key is to adapt to your situation.
Stay safe while you’re working remotely and look after yourself and your colleagues!
